Investigators are receiving tips from the public after releasing a series of photographs apparently taken by convicted serial killer Rodney Alcala.

Hundreds of Alcala's photographs, apparently taken before his first arrest in 1979, were released by Huntington Beach police Wednesday. They feature women and girls in candid and posed shots.

Prosecutors say Alcala used his camera to gain the trust of young women and now they fear photographs he snapped decades ago could contain images of more potential victims

Police say they've been "inundated by tips" about the women in the photos. An Orange County newspaper received 2.5 million hits on its website after it put the photos online.

Police in Huntington Beach told NBC News that Alcala may now be linked to at least three additional murders.

On Tuesday, a jury recommended Alcala be sentenced to death for the murders of five females in the 1970s.

Alcala is known as the "Dating Game" killer because he appeared on the game show in 1978 as "bachelor number one", just months before his first arrest.
