California's depressing job market is starting to show signs of life, according to new data released from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. And among states with high unemployment, even more good news. We're not the worst.
Unemployment in the golden state dropped to 12.3%, down from the year's high in October of 12.5% the Bureau reported. It's the first time California has seen the creation of new jobs since April 2008.
California is one of 36 states that saw unemployment decline in November.
So who's worse than us? If you're looking for a job, you may want to scratch these states off your list:
For some comparison, two years ago the unemployment rate in California hovered just below 6%.
Nationally, the unemployment rate edged down to 10.0 percent, 0.2 percentage point lower than October, the Bureau Reported. The West recorded the highest jobless rates while the Northeast recorded the lowest at 8.7 percent.
Who had the lowest? According to the Bureau, North Dakota was the best at 4.1% followed by Nebraska at 4.5% and South Dakota at 5.0%.
