The vast variety of places to watch a movie in this town?
Astonishing, truly, from parks to schools to classic movie palaces to mega-plexes. It can feel, at times, as though the roster of possible screening locations is as long as the scroll of a film's end credits.
But there's one sort of spot that stands out as especially cinematic: A place that mirrors what viewers are seeing on the screen, if not exactly, then very much in spirit.
"Top Gun" will come in for a landing at such a place on Saturday, July 13, and if you guessed it might have something to do with planes, then you're as smart as an F-18 Super Hornet is fast.
The 1986 classic will, in fact, feel the need, the need for speed at none other than Van Nuys Airport at one Maverick of a movie screening.
The reason behind the event, however, isn't as maverick-like as it is marvelous: Proceeds from the $20 tickets will benefit the Valley Relics Museum, which calls the airport home.
Oh yes, and if you want to go the VIP route, that's $35. "Popcorn in a Souvenir Tub" is involved, as are pilot wings.
