Tsunami Warning System Put to the Test

Don't let that loud ringing concern you. It's just a drill.

In the wake of the deadly Tsunamis in the South Pacific, the Port Hueneme Police Department and Port of Hueneme Security are holding a joint Tsunami Warning Test today.

At 2:00pm Port Security will activate the Tsunami Siren to ensure that the warning notification can be heard throughout the so-called Port Hueneme inundation zone.  The siren will sound for approximately two minutes.

Yesterday, PHPD issued a Reverse 911 emergency notification call in the inundation zone warning residents and businesses of the upcoming siren alarm and to assure them that it is only a test.

Following today's siren warning the Reverse 911 system will again be activated to remind residents and businesses that this was  merely  a test of the Tsunami Warning System and to ask them to press a number depending on whether they were or were not able to hear the sirens.

Port Hueneme is about five miles south of Oxnard, in Ventura County.
