Man Wanted for Attempted Sexual Assault in Tustin

Authorities on Monday were searching for a suspect wanted in connection with an attempted sexual assault in Orange County over the weekend.

A woman walking down Mitchell Avenue headed towards Red Hill Avenue in Tustin was approached by a man walking in the opposite direction about 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

"Walking toward each other, he puts her on ground, starts to take her pants off. She yells, he takes off running," said Sergeant Sean Whiteley from the Tustin Police Department.

The suspect is described as a white male around 30-years-old. He has a thin build and stands between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall.

At the time of the attack, he was wearing a hoodie which covered much of his face. However, the victim remembered that he had a distinctive red mustache.

People who live in the neighborhood say it's quiet and safe, but the assault has sparked concern within the community.

"My mom always walks to the store. She feels safe. Pretty much I feel safe walking to the store, but that’s why I’m concerned," said Tustin resident Angie Ramirez.

Police have been checking surveillance cameras in the area in hopes it will give them more clues about the suspect. They say the victim did the right thing by drawing attention to herself and the crime.

If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are urged to contact Detective D. Nguyen at 714-573-3250.
