Twin Brothers Survive Crash That Killed Mom and Aunt

Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected as factors in the crash, the CHP reported.

Twin brothers — both exchange students from Hong Kong — were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Littlerock that left their mother and aunt dead, the California Highway Patrol confirmed Tuesday.

The 25-year-old brothers — driver Ho Chuen Wong and front seat passenger Ho Yuen Wong, both of Sacramento — were in a Ford Fiesta that was struck by a pickup truck about 2 p.m. Monday at the intersection of 87th Street East and Fort Tejon Road. They suffered minor to moderate injuries and were airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, according to the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Pronounced dead at the scene were 62-year-old Muk Lan Yau and 56-year-old Oi Lan Yau, both of Hong Kong. They had been in the back seat of the Ford, and the older woman had not used a seatbelt, according to the CHP, which did not specify which deceased victim was the brothers' mother.

The pickup truck driver, 30-year-old John Lennox, was not injured. His passenger, 61-year-old Charles Lennox, sustained minor injuries but did not require hospital transport, according to the CHP. It's unclear how the two, both residents of Pearblossom, are related.

According to the preliminary investigation, the 2017 Fiesta was heading south on 87th Street about 75 mph and the driver ran a stop sign and was struck by the pickup, a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado that had been westbound on Fort Tejon Road, traveling at 50 mph. At least one victim was trapped in the wreckage, a fire department dispatcher said.

A CHP officer at the scene told the Antelope Valley Press that those in the Ford were headed to Santa Monica College and the Ford's GPS device directed the driver from Pearblossom Highway (state Route 138) onto 87th Street East just prior to the crash.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected as factors in the crash, the CHP reported.
