Two Deputies Injured, Pedestrian Killed in West Hollywood Crash

A stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood reopened Friday afternoon following a crash that injured two sheriff's deputies, killed one pedestrian and critically injured another.

The crash was reported around 11:15 p.m. Thursday at the corner of Santa Monica and San Vicente boulevards, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Officials said the collision occurred when the deputies were responding to a call reporting spousal assault. The deputies' vehicle had lights and sirens on before it clipped a car, spun onto the sidewalk and struck two men walking.

Authorities said one of the deputies had to be rescued from the wreckage.

All of the crash victims were transported to a hospital. One of the pedestrians was pinned under a car and died at the hospital. The other was in critical condition, officials said.

Both of the deputies involved suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Another vehicle was involved in the crash but no one was injured.

Officials said the deputy who was driving was a 4-year veteran with the department and a former Marine. The passenger was a deputy on a ride-along.

The crash is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, which will determine the speed of the deputies' vehicle at the time collision, sheriff's officials said.

The intersection at Santa Monica and San Vicente boulevards was closed for hours during the investigation.
