Woman, Girl Found Dead in Hemet Home

Officials have said the two are related but not if they are mother and daughter

A 33-year-old man was arrested Saturday in connection with the shooting deaths of a woman and 5-year-old girl, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

A third victim was hospitalized with stab wounds after deputies responded to the 41000 block of Sunset Lane in Hemet after 9 p.m. on Saturday. Deputies arrived at the residence to find a man with blood on him in the street and -- after what authorities described as a brief struggle -- took him into custody.

Johnny Lopez, 33, was booked on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, according to Riverside County jail records. A court date was scheduled for Thursday at the Southwest Justice Center.

Joanna Lopez, 33, and Mia Lopez, 5, were found dead inside of a Hemet home. Though the two have the same last name as the suspect, officials would not clarify the relationship among the three.

The stabbing victim was found inside the Sunset Lane residence and hospitalized. Details regarding her condition were not available early Monday.

About an hour after responding to the location on Sunset Lane, deputies received a second call from a residence in the 26000 block of Girard Street. A 36-year-old woman and 5-year-old girl were found dead inside the residence, about one mile northwest of the Sunset Lane location.

"Both incidents appear to be related and there are no outstanding suspects," according to a Riverside County Sheriff's Department statement.
