Rescuers found two missing hikers early Thursday in the rugged Eaton Canyon area northeast of Pasadena.

The two experienced hikers called authorities at about 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday to report they were lost, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Deails regarding their conditions were not immediately available.

The two men began their hike near the base of the San Gabriel Mountains north of Altadena, but authorities are unsure where the men planned on hiking to before they got lost. Authorities said it was their first time hiking in the area.

About 15 search and rescue personnel were looking for the men early Thursday. A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department helicopter lowered rescuers to the hikers for an airlift.

A Yellow Mitsubishi Lancer belonging to one of the hikers was found near the area.

Several rescue operations have been conduced in Eaton Canyon over the past year. In March, a 17-year-old girl was killed after falling from a cliff in the area.

One week later, two women were injured during a fall on the same trail.
