A man driving a U-Haul van terrorized motorists Monday in San Bernardino, witnesses said.
The man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after witnesses said he drove the van through San Bernardino neighborhoods, trying to run multiple drivers off the road.
"I saw him going down 17th street and he just stopped; he was just parked there," said Cathy, a witness who did not wish to give her last name. "Cars were just honking and honking at him, and finally he just took off and I saw him a few minutes later go fast up the bridge."
After seeing the van speed up and down his street, witness Robert Mayoral said he and his friends decided to take action, following the driver until he pulled into an Arco gas station.
Mayoral said his friends confronted the suspect and tried to hold him for police, but he was combative and drove off. One friend broke out the back window with a wrench, but the U-Haul driver did not stop.
"He was on a lot of something," Mayoral said.
About an hour later, San Bernardino police finally caught up with the driver at a parking lot on the corner of Baseline Street and Mt. Vernon Avenue. Surveillance video from a nearby business shows the man complying with officers who arrested him without incident.

Inside the van were boxes of clothing and other household items. In the front seat was a pair of handcuffs.
Police said there were trying to locate any possible victims who may have had their vehicles struck by the van.
