Students Warned After UC Irvine Sex Assault

"Consent cannot be given when a person is incapacitated,” the crime alert read.

School officials at the University of California, Irvine are warning students after a woman reported being sexually assaulted at a residence hall late Saturday night into Sunday morning.

The woman said she was incapacitated at the time of the attack.

The suspect is described as 5 foot 10 inches tall with a medium build, short black hair, and dark brown eyes. He is believed to be 18 years old.

"Consent cannot be given when a person is incapacitated," the crime alert read. "Silence does not equal consent…Once consent is withdrawn, the sexual activity must stop immediately."

A week ago, campus police at UCI warned students after another woman was sexually assaulted inside a residence hall by a man she met through social media.

"It can be assumed that crimes of a similar nature could continue to occur since the suspect has not been arrested," the university said in a statement. "Members and guests of the UCI community should take precautions."

The two attacks are not believed to be related.
