A UCLA football player was arrested Thursday on suspicion of raping a female student last year, police said.

On Oct. 19, 2014, the student reported to police that she had met a man at an off-campus house party in Westwood earlier that day. They left to a nearby residence, where she fell asleep and awoke to find him sexually assaulting her, the Los Angeles Police Department said. The alleged victim told police she did not know her attacker.

Investigators used DNA and photos to identify Adam Searl as the suspect, said Officer Jack Richter of the LAPD.

Searl, 20, was taken into custody on campus without incident. He was booked on three counts of rape and was released on $300,000 bail.

Searl, of Irvine, is a sophomore punter for the Bruins, according to the team’s website.

"We have been informed of the situation involving Adam Searl, and we take these accusations very seriously," UCLA head football coach Jim Mora said in a statement. "Adam has been suspended from the team indefinitely while the legal process runs its course. Due to the ongoing police investigation, we are unable to discuss this matter further at this time."
