Authorities were investigating the death of a graduate student whose decomposing body was discovered inside of a University of Southern California dorm room, it was announced Thursday.
The body was discovered about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday at Seaver Residence Hall, located on USC's Health Sciences campus, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter. An autopsy was pending.
Twenty-four-year-old Jacob Kelley was a first-year student in the Masters of Science in Medical Physiology at the Keck School of Medicine, dean Rohit Varma said in a letter addressed to students, faculty and staff.
"It is with great sadness that we write to inform you of the passing of a member of our Keck School community," Varma said in the letter. "Jacob's family has been notified of their son's passing."
According to the Daily Trojan, the student had been dead for about a week before his body was discovered. No foul play is suspected, according to David Carlisle of the campus' public safety department.
Details on the cause of his death were not immediately available.
