Uber Driver Fatally Shot in Inglewood While on Duty: Officials

A man who was shot to death in Inglewood over the weekend was an Uber driver on duty, officials said on Monday.

The shooting was reported just before 4 a. m. in the 3700 block of 109th Street Sunday, according to the Inglewood Police Department.

Responding officers found a man sitting inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds, police said. The victim, identified as Andre Jamal Bayyan of Los Angeles, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Uber spokesperson Michael Amodeo confirmed the man was a driver with Uber and was on a trip when the shooting occurred.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. Bayyan to the senseless act of violence. Our thoughts and condolences are with his immediate family and loved ones. We have proactively reached out to the authorities to offer our assistance in their investigation," Amodeo said.

Police are investigating what led up to the shooting. No suspect information was immediately available.
