Fifteen to 20 Department of Water and Power customers were high and dry Sunday morning as utility crews repair yet another water main break, this time in Venice, authorities said.

An 8-inch water main ruptured on Lincoln Boulevard around 5 a.m., sending water flowing down the street and degrading the street above the pipe, according to fire department radio transmissions.

DWP spokesperson Carol Tucker said southbound Venice Boulevard between Palms Boulevard and Superba Avenue will be shut down for six to eight hours as
crews work to repair this latest rupture in the city water infrastructure.

The affected area was between the Santa Monica city limtis and Venice Boulevard.

Tucker said it was unclear what caused the rupture. She said they were notified of the rupture by the Los Angeles City Fire Department about 5:20 a.m. Humphrey said the fire department was called about the water main break at 5:06 a.m.

"We arrived quickly to find free-flowing water," said Los Angeles city fire spokesperson Brian Humphrey, adding that no injuries were reported and no evacuations were ordered.
