Victim in South El Monte Car-to-Car Shooting Identified

The Los Angeles County Coroner has confirmed the identity of a man was who killed in a car-to-car shooting in South El Monte Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Jose Radillo Jr.

Radillo was killed when a shooter allegedly pulled up to his car around 4:30 p.m. in the 9000 block of Garvey Avenue. Both the victim's car and the alleged gunman's car were traveling eastbound on Garvey Avenue when the gunman started shooting. After the man was struck by gunfire, his car collided into the three other cars as he continued on Garvey Avenue.

A Good Samaritan who was working nearby tried to help the victim, who had been traveling in a black sedan with a female passenger when he was struck by gunfire.

"She just kept saying, 'He's my boyfriend, he's my boyfriend,' and I was just trying to calm her down," the Good Samaritan said. "But I didn't know everything until she started spilling it to me."

The female passenger was not injured. The male victim was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.

The shooter fled in a dark colored vehicle. Officials have no knowledge of any possible motive. A weapon has not been recovered.
