Man Skips Out on Manicure Bill, Gets in Scuffle With Salon Owner

Newly released surveillance video shows the moments before an altercation between a salon owner and a man who allegedly refused to pay his manicure bill in Southern California

Taykeion Henry Jorden, 19, tried to pay for $89 worth of services at a nail salon in Covina with a personal check. When the owner, Fook Nguyen, told Jorden they didn't accept personal checks, he agreed to walk with Jorden to a nearby liquor store to cash a check.

This was where the surveillance video picked up. It shows Jordan inside the store attempting to cash a check before leaving and getting into a scuffle with Nguyen. Police said the clerk denied the check because it looked phony.

When Jorden left the liquor store he told Nguyen he had money in his car. When the two walked together into a nearby alley to Jordan's alleged car, Nguyen said Jorden tried to run away. The two got into a scuffle.

"I hit my head, fall down on the street," Nguyen said. He called 911 and police later found Jorden at nearby Carl's Jr.

"It wasn't to difficult," to find Jorden, "he was wearing yoga pants," Sgt. Gregg Peterson said, from Covina PD.

Nguyen suffered a laceration on his face and a dislocated shoulder, Peterson said.
