Vigil Set for Mother, Son Killed in South LA House Fire

The mother and her 1-year-old baby boy who died in a fire that authorities are investigating as a double homicide will be remembered during a vigil Saturday evening, family members said.

Dillan Reyes and Gisela Yauli died Wednesday after a fire ravaged the garage conversion they were living in in South Los Angeles.

Family members of Yauli and her common law husband, Oscar Reyes, were expected at the vigil set to begin at 8 p.m. at 489 E. 49th Street in Los Angeles.

The case was ruled a homicide after preliminary autopsy reports from the coroner’s office, officials said. Details about the deaths or any possible suspects were not available.

Fire officials were facing criticism in the case after neighbors reported smoke in the same neighborhood 90 minutes before the fire. Authorities reported that they couldn’t find the source and returned to other duties.

A fundraiser was scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. to help raise money for the victims’ family at Henry’s Taco, where Oscar Reyes works. The popular taco stand is located at 4389 Tujunga Avenue in Studio City.
