Melrose Avenue Reopens After Repairs Due to Water Main Break

Part of Melrose Avenue in the West Hollywood area was closed into Tuesday afternoon due to damage from an overnight water main break.

The 8-inch water main broke early Tuesday morning in Beverly Grove, causing the street to buckle, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Officials responded to a flooding just before 1 a.m. in the 8200 block of Melrose Avenue, past North Sweetzer Avenue and before North Flores Street, according to the LADWP.

The street had significant damage, including buckling and deep cracks in the pavement.

The water main break affected 10 single family residences, according to the LADWP. Businesses in the area also were preparing to open without water service.

"We are a hot yoga studio, so water is crucial to at least hae in the restrooms for our guests," said Nicole Masterson, of Y7 Studio. "People get sweaty here."

Service was expected to be restored Tuesday morning. Melrose Avenue reopened to traffic at about 1 p.m.
