Beverly Hills Residents Asked to Conserve Water Due to Leak

Beverly Hills residents were asked to conserve water after a water line leak that shut down a portion of Sunset Boulevard while crews work to repair the damage, authorities said.

A news conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. with city representatives and the Metropolitan Water District. They're asking residents to conserve water because the city will be forced to rely on water in storage while authorities determine the severity of the damage.

More details on the conservation plan are expected at the afternoon news conference. The pipe will likely be out of service for about a week, according to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

The break occurred early Sunday morning and forced crews to shut down Sunset Boulevard at Alpine Drive, Beverly Hills authorities said. Eastbound Sunset Boulevard is also closed at Rexford Drive with traffic being diverted north and south.

Traffic on Southbound Alpine Drive is being diverted to westbound Sunset Boulevard, and north Alpine Drive is closed. Finally, westbound Sunset Boulevard is restricted to one lane, authorities said.

These closures and traffic diversions will remain in effect until the problem has been resolved, according to Beverly Hills Public Works.
