Cars Submerged After Water Main Break

A broken water main flooded streets and a West Hollywood apartment complex garage early Wednesday.

The break at 825 Westbourne Drive was reported at about 3:30 a.m. The water was shut off about an hour later, but some residents awoke to find their vehicles submerged.

Crews are attempting to pump water from the garage.

At least five cars were in the lower-level garage when water flowed down the street and into the parking area. One resident started his car, but was unable to back it out of the garage.

"I had to stop for a second and it died," said Norman VanGelder. "By that time, water was pouring out everywhere like a fountain."
