Way-Cool Valley Relics x Vintage L.A. Night

Join a fundraiser for the super-rad, SFV-loving museum at the Van Nuys Airport.

What to Know

  • Wednesday, June 19, 6 to 10 p.m.
  • 7900 Balboa Boulevard, Hangar C3 + C4, Lake Balboa
  • $10

The neon-lit, Googie'd-out, mid-century marvel that is Southern California has seen numerous changes to its streets and structures over the years, no doubt.

But there are nice, knowledgeable, and hard-working locals who continue to shine a loving light on the enduring attributes that made our area so visually iconic.

Alison Martino, the SoCal-smart skipper at the history-fun helm of Vintage Los Angeles, and Tommy Gelinas, a Valley Boy dedicated to preserving the decades-gone-by lore and more of the SFV via the Valley Relics Museum, are two such people.

The deets on the wayback-wonderful bash, which raises money for the Valley Relics Museum?

The Valley Relics x Vintage L.A. celebration shall shimmer as brightly as the sign for The Palomino on Wednesday, June 19 at the Valley-vivacious institution.

An institution that made a much-needed jump to the Van Nuys Airport in 2018 from its former (and smaller) home in Chatsworth.

The Scene

Want to find new things to do in Los Angeles? The Scene's lifestyle stories have you covered. Here's your go-to source on where the fun is across SoCal and for the weekend.

Starbucks brings the heat with 3 new spicy drinks

New goodies add cosmic kick to Disneyland's ‘May the 4th' line-up

The stylish shindig will not only help the Valley Relics Museum with all proceeds raised; it's also a chance to say hello to Ms. Martino and Mr. Gelinas.

Further adding the good vibes to the proceedings?

A snazzy scene for anyone enchanted by the buildings, graphics, characters, and spirit that so strongly flowed through the Valley's veins a half century ago, or thereabouts.

Will there be throwback tunes spun DJ-style, all to further set the '70s-sunshiny, mellow gold tone of the night? Plan on doing some time travel of the most music-rad sort.

The opportunity to enjoy "light drinks and refreshments" as well as "free vintage arcade play," too?

Out. Of. Sight.

Also out of sight? Tours of the museum will be part of the event, so hop on one and saunter back to an earlier era of the San Fernando Valley.

And even out-of-sighter, for cool people looking to show their SoCal spunk, tee-style?

A brand-new Vintage Los Angeles shirt, with a nifty logo created by Mark London (of Beach Boys design fame) and printed by Mr. Gelinas' own The Print Lab, will also make its retro-fied debut that night.

Like, we're so stoked.

A ticket to the party is ten bucks, so snag yours now.

Will you be slipping into your striped tube socks, your Dolphin shorts, and all of the awesome apparel you used to wear when your rode your BMX around Victory Boulevard back in '77?

Not required, but if you've still got a few classic looks in the bottom drawer? Best rock 'em for a night, all to summon that quintessential Valley vibe.
