Gunshots were heard early Thursday evening at an upscale apartment complex near Ladera Heights. When it was over, one man was dead and two people were hospitalized. Patrick Healy reports for the NBC4 News at 11pm on Thursday, June 21, 2012.
A shooting in Westchester left two men dead and one man hospitalized Thursday, fire officials said.
The shooting occurred at about 6 p.m. in the 5700 block of West Centinela Avenue (map), said Matt Spence of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The location is just across the street from Ladera Heights.
One of the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Details regarding the condition of the third victim were not immediately available.
"It sounded like people bouncing off the walls," said resident Jeanne Batey. "I looked down, straight down -- body lying on the pavement. Hope I can get that image out of my mind."
Authorities recovered a gun that might have been used in the shooting, but few details were available early Friday regarding how the events transpired. The gun was found in a trash bin.
"They ended up in the same area, but where exactly they were shot, we're still trying to figure that out," said LAPD Capt. John Peters.
The victims were between 20 and 30.
