[LA] High School Football Players Arrested After Alleged Sexual Assault Hazing
Three high school football players from Westlake Village have been arrested in Hawaii after allegedly sexually assaulting freshmen students on a road trip, authorities said. The incident was believed to be hazing. Tena Ezzeddine reports from Westlake Village for NBC4 News at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013. (Published Sunday, Aug 25, 2013)

Conejo Valley Unified School District Superintendent Jeff Baarstad said that nobody was injured or sought medical treatment in the alleged attack. He said there was some shouting, shoving and a couple of punches thrown but other players and coaches intervened.

He said a parent called Honolulu police, who arrested some players, including a 17-year-old on suspicion of sexual assault.

Baarstad said he wasn't sure what, exactly, that player was accused of doing.

A lieutenant from the Honolulu Police Department told NBC4 that prosecutors have declined to file charges against the football players.

Westlake High flew about 160 players to Oahu to play against Waipahu High School, and its freshmen squad was to play Kamehameha Academy.

Honolulu police have not released any details about the allegations, citing the juvenile status of those involved.

Westlake High School is a public school on the LA-Ventura County line, about 35 miles west of Los Angeles. The games were Friday and the students were scheduled to return to LAX on Saturday, KITV reported.

"We were disappointed to learn of the incident," school administrator Jeff Davis said in a prepared statement released Sunday. "We are working with the WHS administration and football coaching staff to determine just what occurred and to develop the appropriate actions in response."
