Westlake High School Softball Coach Arrested for Allegedly Sexually Assaulting Teen Girl

A Westlake High School softball coach has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl, Thousand Oaks police said.

Robert Garza, 37, of Newbury Park was booked earlier this week in Ventura, where he was charged with "a variety of sexual assault charges involving a minor," according to a police report. He’s being held on $100,000 bail.

The Thousand Oaks Police Department received a tip last Wednesday that Garza, who coaches Westlake High’s all-girl softball team and boys’ basketball team, was sexually involved with one of the girls from his team.

An ensuing investigation gave detectives reason to believe the allegations were true and to arrest Garza, who is set to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Authorities believe the alleged incident, or incidents, occurred off school grounds during Spring Break, April 14-21.

Conejo Valley Unified School District Superintendent Jeffrey Baarstad is cooperating with the investigation, police said. But investigators are seeking the public’s help to suss out other possible victims.

Anyone with additional information has been asked to contact Thousand Oaks Sgt. Jason Robarts at 805-947-8108.
