Normally, you'd see a little more perspiration on a summer playground in Woodland Hills, but lately it has been pleasant.
And it's been like this most of the summer.
Los Angeles has had below normal temperatures through most of July and at least four days in August.
Meteorologist Mark Jackson, from the National Weather Service says the reason for the cooling trend is the Pacific Ocean. The ocean has been several degrees cooler than normal and that has made our weather cooler as well. "Over the last three months, we've actually had a very large area of below normal temperatures... water temperatures in the Eastern Pacific and extending into Central Pacific, where we had La Niña conditions over the winter," said Jackson.
Remember, last summer was a cool one too. California had below normal temperatures in July and August; before a record-setting hot day in September. "A lot of times we go into these multi-year cycles where we may have a couple of cool summers in a row, and then maybe a couple of cool winters in a row," said Jackson.
And it's not just California. The entire west coast has seen a cooler summer, while much of the country has been baking in record heat. It’s another reason to love living here.
