Police surrounded a home and Winnetka Avenue was closed early Monday after police received a report of a man with a gun.

The road was closed in Winnetka near Archwood Street and several police vehicles were at the location. The call from the subject's wife came in at about 5 a.m.

The location is just north of Pierce College.

As early Monday afternoon, police remained outside a house in the 6700 block of Winnetka Avenue. The standoff began after officers approached the suspect near a garage and attempted to speak with him.

"They asked him to come out, and he did not," said Capt. Thomas Brascia. "He actually retrieved a shotgun and pointed it at our officers."

A woman who exited the home told police that she was a victim of domestic violence.

About 20 residents have been evacuated.

There have been no reports of shots fired.
