Most Winter Shelters to Remain Open 24/7 Due to Storm

Most winter shelters around Southern California have been notified to stay open around the clock starting Thursday in response to the upcoming storm, officials said.

The shelters will be open from 5 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Saturday, according to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority.

The storm is forecast to strike the Southland as early as Thursday afternoon through midday Friday, NBC4 Meteorologist Crystal Egger said.

The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority activated 10 additional beds for the Salvation Army-Bell Shelter Thursday, increasing its capacity to 89, according to Supervisor Hilda Solis. Motel vouchers will be available for homeless families seeking shelter by calling 211.

Winter shelters in these locations will stay open during this period:

  • Bell
  • East San Gabriel Valley
  • Highland Park
  • Lancaster
  • Santa Clarita
  • Skid Row
  • South Los Angeles
  • Sylmar
  • West Los Angeles
  • Pomona
  • Santa Clarita
