Mother Arrested in Connection with Son's Shooting Death at Hotel

The motive for the killing was under investigation.

A woman was arrested in connection with the shooting death of her teenage son in a Rosemead hotel room Monday, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said.

Seventeen-year-old George Hang was found dead at the Valley Hotel in the 8700 block of Valley Boulevard just after 10 a.m., more than five hours after other hotel guests reported hearing gunshots, deputies said.

His mother, Lai Hang, 49, was taken into custody and later arrested on suspicion of murder, according to a statement from LASD.

Deputies found a handgun in the hotel room, which Lai Hang and George Hang, both Rosemead residents, had checked into the night before, investigators said.

Though hotel guests described hearing two gunshots just after 5 a.m., no one called police until Lai Hang reported the shooting around 10 a.m., according to Lt. Victor Lewandowski.

Before police arrived, a hotel housekeeper recalled seeing a bandaged man lying on the bed in the Hang's hotel room.

Lai Hang was being held on $1 million bail and the motive for the killing was under investigation Monday night.
