Woman Caught Smuggling $160K Worth of Crystal Meth at LAX

A 27-year-old woman from San Ysidro, California, was arrested July 18 at Los Angeles International Airport after authorities found $160,000 worth of crystal meth hidden in the lining of her suitcase, customs officials said.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers noticed the woman's nervous behavior and conducted a secondary search of her suitcase, where they found 11.24 pounds of crystal meth in tape-wrapped packages, officials said.

The meth was confiscated, and the woman, who was arriving from Guadalajara, was arrested and turned over to the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations Special Agents for further investigation.

"Once again, the training, expertise and commitment of our LAX CBP Officers prevented dangerous narcotics from entering and harming our community," said Mitchell Merriam, port director of U.S. Customs and Border Protection at LAX.
