Woman Dies at Senior Residence, Man Arrested

When police arrived, they found the elderly woman alone in her apartment, seriously injured and unconscious.

A man was taken into custody related to a person found dead at a senior living residence in Riverside Tuesday, police said.

Riverside police were called to the Silvercrest Residences shortly before 3:00 a.m. by a relative of one of the residents. The relative was concerned about her loved one.

When police arrived, they found the elderly woman alone in her apartment, seriously injured and unconscious. Paramedics were unable to revive the woman. Another resident of this senior citizen complex told her daughter that someone tried to break into her apartment during the night.

"She told me she saw two men try to get into her apartment, so she left her apartment and went into the office," Dina Garcia, the neighbor's daughter said.

Garcia's mother lives on the second floor, which is the same floor where the victim was attacked. Police are currently looking at security camera video from the complex, which is run by the Salvation Army.

The man in custody does have a criminal record, but does not appear to have any connection to the Salvation Army, the victim or any other residents at the senior residence, detectives said.

The man taken into custody was found walking in this area at the same time police discovered the victim's dead body.
