Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes Woman, Backs Up and Runs Over Her Again

Authorities were searching for the driver of an SUV who struck a woman in Long Beach early Sunday morning and then backed up and drove over her again before taking off, police said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision occurred about 12:45 a.m. in the area of Anaheim Street and Ohio Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police said the woman was crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk when she was struck by a beige Ford Expedition traveling westbound on Anaheim Street.

After the collision, the SUV reversed and made a right turn onto Ohio Avenue, colliding with the woman a second time before leaving the scene, police said.

One witness said when she saw the driver speed off, she could not believe what she was seeing.

The woman was later struck by a second vehicle, a 2006 Cadillac. The driver of the Cadillac remained at the scene, police said.

The woman has not yet been identified.

No description of the driver was made available.
