Anaheim Check Forgery Suspect Pursuit Ends With Three-Vehicle Crash

Officers attempted to question the woman as she left a check-cashing business

A woman suspected of forging a check led Anaheim police on a pursuit Tuesday that ended with a three-vehicle collision.

The suspect and a woman in another vehicle were hospitalized after the crash at Broadway and Manchester Avenue, according to police.

The suspect tried to cash a forged check at a check-cashing business in the 100 block of Brookhurst Street at about 11 a.m., Sgt. Bob Dunn said. The woman had just left the business when officers arrived, then fled when they attempted to question her, Dunn said.

Officers in squad cars and an aerial unit pursued the woman on the 5 Freeway. The SUV driver exited on Harbor Boulevard before heading west on Ball Road and north on Manchester Avenue.

She collided with two other vehicles at Broadway, Dunn said. Video showed one of the vehicles on the sidewalk of an overpass.

"I don't know why people do that," a witness said. "It's very stupid. It happened so fast -- bang, bang, bang."

Details regarding injuries were not immediately available. A man driving the third vehicle involved in the crash was treated at the scene and released.
