Yay, It's Time for Monterey Bay Aquarium's ‘Fish-mas'

Sign up to receive festive, carol-cute emails from the famous aquatic favorite.

SHARKS ARE SLEEK, otters are adorable, sardines are silvery, crabs are crawly, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium is quick-witted, among the institution's many other admirable traits. If you've spent any time poring over the aquatic landmark's social media pages, you know that wordplay, specifically involving the residents of the ocean, is a prized thing, and the general cleverness is as strong as the Pacific's salty. What, though, if some of that cleverness could be channeled into a cheerful event, one with a seasonal vibe, a happening that has "holiday" written all over it? Well, if you like the yuletide and tides, as in the ones that lap at the beach, we can bet you'd quickly sign up for such a fun-fun thing. And that fun-fun thing begins on...

FRIDAY, DEC. 14, via email, when the Monterey Bay Aquarium's "Fish-mas" begins. What's the strange and wondrous word, you ask? It doesn't involve a bunch of mackerel making merry, or some seahorses swimming around a tree, but it does feature a daily email that rolls out another line from "The Twelve Days of Christmas," only with fishy turns of phrase. Step one? You'll need to sign up, to get the emails. "When you sign up, you'll receive one email every day for 12 days, each revealing another line of our rendition of 'The 12 Days of Christmas.'" Sweet, light, and a delightful (yet brief) diversion the days leading up to Dec. 25.

OF COURSE, you can always visit the Cannery Row-based aquarium, for more marine-tastic amazingness. But if the holidays have you rushed, slow down and celebrate "Fish-mas"  with the Monterey Bay Aquarium, beginning on Dec. 14, 2018.
