Traffic backed up as a brush fire shut down the 91 Freeway in Anaheim on Wednesday, May 14, 2014.

Lanes reopened after a brush fire in Anaheim snarled traffic on the 91 Freeway Wednesday afternoon, according to the Anaheim Police Department.

The freeway was shut down about 1 p.m. from East Street to Harbor Boulevard and reopened within a couple of hours.

Aerial video showed traffic backing up as smoke hovered over the roadway.

Anaheim fire officials asked drivers to avoid streets in the area to allow firefighters to gain access as they battled the blaze.
