Man Sought After Robbery Report Killed During Anaheim Standoff

A man who may have been involved in an armed robbery was killed Friday after a standoff with police in Anaheim, officials said.

Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at Fry's Electronics in the 3300 block of E. La Palma Avenue about 2 p.m., Anaheim Police Lt. Bob Dunn said.

After arriving to the scene, police found out two people, one possibly armed with a gun, fled in a dark-colored SUV, Dunn said.

After receiving another call about a crash involving an SUV of the same description, police chased the SUV's occupants who ran away from the car, Dunn said.

One person was detained by a nearby California Highway Patrol officer, but the other person was later found inside a car parked in a dealership lot, police said.

Witnesses told police man holed up in the car was seen earlier pointing a gun at bystanders, Dunn said.

Police used "chemical agents" to try to get the man out of the car after he refused, Dunn said, then "exchanged gunfire" after an hour-long standoff.

The man was killed, Dunn said.

Additional details about the incident were not immediately clear.
