Body Found in Suspect's Vehicle: Police

A woman was detained in Tustin in connection with the investigation.

The daughter-in-law of a woman believed to have been killed at a Diamond Bar home that caught fire early Wednesday was detained in Tustin, where found a body was found inside the suspect's vehicle.

Los Angeles County fire crews responded around 1:30 a.m. to a fire at a home in the 1200 block of North Diamond Bar Boulevard, according to the Sheriff's Department. Fire crews searched the home after dousing the flames and did not find anyone inside, and arson investigators were called to try to determine how the blaze started.

At about 8 a.m., meanwhile, Tustin police stopped a "suspicious vehicle" being driven near Tustin Ranch Road and Greenway Drive by a woman who lived at the Diamond Bar home, and investigators suspected the remains of her mother-in-law might be inside the car, according to sheriff's officials and
Tustin police.

"She was always just a sweet, sweet lady," said the victim's neighbor Terry. "I can't imagine why anyone would want to hurt another individual, especially a sweet woman like that."

The car, which was filled with numerous bags and other household items, remained at the scene early this afternoon while investigators obtained a search warrant to go through the vehicle, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The car was expected to be taken to the Orange County coroner's office for a more thorough inspection.

It was unclear what prompted Tustin police to stop the vehicle or what led to the suspicion that a body might be in the car.
