A body was found covered with foliage when a passerby's dog wandered near the body. Patrick Healy reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2014.

A man walking his dog discovered a woman's dead body behind a carport in a La Habra neighborhood, police said Monday.

The body was found covered with foliage in the 900 block of S. Idaho Street when the passerby's dog wandered near the body, according to the La Habra Police Department.

The dog had first alerted his owner to the area on Friday, but the man did not find the body and call police until his dog went to the same area again on Monday, police said.

Only the feet and a small portion of the body were uncovered, and police said they believe she may have been intentionally hidden in the bushes.

Neighbors said the area can be hard to find unless someone know how to get around.

"You can get lost in here ... Usually when people come to see me, they always get lost in here," said Valerie Parker, who described seeing a man she didn't know near the scene with a blanket over the trunk of his car.

"He seemed to know this place to be parked there," Parker said.

Additional details about the death were not immediately clear.
