Human skeletal remains were discovered under thick brush near the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, but police do not suspect foul play. Gadi Schwartz reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014. (Published Friday, May 23, 2014)

Human skeletal remains were discovered under thick brush near the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Thursday, police said.

The remains were found about 1 p.m. when Caltrans workers were clearing brush on Linda Vista Avenue adjacent to the 210 Freeway, Pasadena Police Lt. Gourdikian said.

The coroner confirmed the bones were that of a human.

"We don't it to be anything that would be criminal, obviously," resident Paul Colony said. "We hope that if it really is human remains that it is something very old, and certainly we're hoping that it's not something that was done intentionally."

Linda Vista Avenue would remain closed overnight during the investigation. The roadway runs alongside the Rose Bowl and Brookside Golf Course.

"There is nothing at this point to indicate foul play that we know of, however the investigation is ongoing, It'll likely continue tonight through the morning hours as well," police said.

The remains were sent to a forensic anthropologist for identification.
