Search for Gunman in Bizarre Random Car-to-Car Shooting in Murrieta

The victims in a bizarre, random car-to-car shooting described the moments when a man they didn't know pulled up next to the them and opened fire in Murrieta Tuesday.

"I let go of the wheel and totally lost it," victim Elisha Allen said. "I curled up into a little ball didn't know what to do."

Police were searching for the driver accused of pulling a black, large-caliber handgun on the victims and firing, leaving the driver with injuries, for seemingly no reason.

The victims, Alisha Allen and Matthew Dement, told police they were driving down Nutmeg Street when a man in a Chevy Cruz in front of them started driving erratically.

They said he cut of a couple of vehicles on the road.

"He was swerving all over the place and driving like he was almost going to cause an accident," Allen said.

As the man in the Chevy waited at a red light at Clinton Keith Road and Nutmeg Street, the victims pulled up next to him and turned right.

The suspected shooter followed them, and pulled up next to them, displaying a large handgun, possibly a Beretta.

Allen said she made eye contact with the man, who began howling and laughing before he opened fire.

"I wanted to get a look at him and I looked back and went, 'What the hell?' That was enough to set him off," Allen said. "The fear he saw in my face -- he liked it."

At least one round hit the car, injuring Allen as bullet fragments and shrapnel cut up her leg. The shooter took off, police said.

"It was the loudest noise I've ever heard," Dement said.

The two managed to steer their car to avoid hitting other cars and drive away to safety.

Police said they were searching for a man, 25-35 years old, with messy dirty blonde hair, a long goatee and no mustache, with an average build.

He was driving a blue four-door Chevrolet Cruz.
