High Speed Chase Ends After CHP Spikes Tires in West Covina

A man was arrested after California Highway Patrol officers ended a high-speed chase by spiking his vehicle's tires in West Covina.

He was pursued all the way from Los Angeles to the 10 Freeway, where the spikes were deployed at around 12:15 a.m, which caused him to crash his car, the CHP said.

Speeds of up to 90 miles-per-hour were reached during the 35-minute pursuit, which took in freeways and surface streets

Los Angeles Police Department officers originally tried to stop him at around  11:40 p.m. Thursday,  when he was spotted driving a white Lexus believed to have been stolen, McAllister said.

CHP officers took up the pursuit just before midnight on the eastbound 10 freeway.

The 45-year-old driver was eventually slowed by a spike strip, and crashed on East Vine Street in West Covina around 12:15 a.m. He is in custody and will be charged with evading and possession of a stolen vehicle.
