Man Buys Lotto Scratchers While Waiting for Food, Scores $5 Million Win

He says he plans to use the winnings to buy a new house and take a vacation

Andres Ramirez told the California Lottery he purchased several scratchers tickets one day in May while waiting for his food at a Whittier doughnut shop.

When he got home he scratched off the last one, a $20 MAX-A-Millions ticket, to find that it was worth $5 million.

He triple and quadruple checked the ticket, and then shouted to his wife, "We're millionaires," the California lottery reported.

Ramirez and his wife said they plan to use their winnings to buy a new house and take a vacation.

The Ramirez family aren't the only big winners. US Donut and Yogurt, owned by Michelle Ny, will receive a $25,000 retailer bonus for selling the winning ticket.
