Police Seek Thieves in Distraction Robberies in Atwater Village

The men were caught on surveillance camera using stolen credit cards.

Authorities were searching for two men who distracted victims by asking for directions before robbing them on the streets in Atwater Village, detectives said Monday.

The men drove up to the first victim on the street. One man asked the victim for directions as the other man got out of the vehicle and robbed him. 

The robbery occurred Sept. 1 around 5:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of Fletcher Drive.

About 15 minutes after the first robbery, the same men approached another victim walking near Tyburn Street and Atwater Avenue, police said.

The suspects took off in the car after the robberies.

Credit cards were stolen and used at a local store where the thieves were caught on surveillance cameras.

The driver was described by police as a White male with blonde hair and a mustache. He is 5-feet 8-inches tall.

The passenger was described by police as a Black male with black hair and a mustache, with a possible earring in his left ear. He stands at 5-feet 10-inches tall.

They were seen driving a white late model Kia Optima.
