Huntington Beach Officers, Lifeguards Help Find Two Men in a Capsized Boat

The coordination of a team effort helped locate two men capsized six miles off the shore in Huntington Beach.

Huntingbeach Police Officer Jonathan Deliema was on air patrol flying over Newport Beach when we headed to save the men.

"The pilot and I were on the same page immediately that we needed to land, pick up a lifeguard and bring him out to that boat," Deliema said.

Deliema coordinated with Huntington Beach Lifeguard Headquarters to establish a safe landing zone and take a lifeguard to the boat.

"As a former ocean lifeguard I know the importance of getting that lifegard to the water rescue as quickly as possible,” Deliema said.

Huntington Beach Air Support arrived at the same time the sheriff department boat to assist the victims.

"One man was treading water and the other appeared to be unconscious needing medical attention,” Deliema said.

The communication of six different agencies were able to save the life of one man while the other lost his life.
