Parents were concerned and angry after an unknown man attempted to kidnap a 10-year-old girl outside Coldwater Canyon Elementary School in North Hollywood. The school did not immediately notify parents of the incident. Toni Guinyard reports from North Hollywood for the NBC4 News at Noon on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014.
A quick-thinking 10-year-old girl fended off a possible kidnapper on Wednesday by biting him, screaming and running for help, police said.
The incident happened about 5:30 p.m. at Coldwater Canyon Elementary School near Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Vanowen Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. A man may have been trying to kidnap the girl, officials said.
The girl was walking near some bathrooms when the man put his hand around her mouth, police said.
The girl, who was at the campus for an after-school program, was not harmed.
Police described the man as having curly gray hair, wearing brown shoes with no laces.
Further details were not immediately available.
