Police Target LA's Most Dangerous Intersections

The Los Angeles Police Department has identified five of the deadliest intersections in Los Angeles as part of a task force conducted on Friday that aims to reduce the number of traffic collisions.

A Directed Enforcement Task Force will target LA's most dangerous intersections that have the highest number of injuries and fatalities from traffic collisions.

"We're gonna saturate this area with officers doing enforcement and education," said Lt. David Ferry, a LAPD traffic coordinator.

All of the designated intersections are heavily populated.

"I've tried to cross and then people try to turn," said Hicela Rivas, a pedestrian. "And it's just dangerous."

But pedestrians are to blame, too, not just drivers, police said.

Some 198 people in LA were killed in intersections, half of which were pedestrians. More than half of those pedestrians killed were at fault, police said.

The most dangerous intersections, according to the LAPD:

  • Avenue 26 and Figueroa Street on the east side;
  • Wilshire Boulevard and Alvarado Street near MacArthur Park;
  • Vermont Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard near the Metro Station;
  • Alvarado Street and Temple Street;
  • Melrose Avenue and Vermont Avenue
