‘It's Our Baby': Cancer Survivor Companion Pit Bull Goes Missing

Lucy, who usually greets patients with a wagging tail and calms anxious pets at a Santa Monica clinic, has gone missing.

Workers at the Westside Pet Clinic took to social media after a cancer companion pit bull named Lucy went missing in Venice.

Lucy, a pit bull rescued from a shelter, has been missing for 12 days.

The lovable pet’s Facebook page already garnered nearly 2,000 likes by Monday.

The pooch had escaped while being cared for by a pet sitter, said Dr. Antje Hinz, medical director at the clinic.

Hinz says Lucy is her dog, but also a "greeter" at the clinic where she works.

Lucy greets patients with a wagging tail, and keeps anxious pets calm, Hinz said.

Hinz received word that Lucy had gone missing when she was thousands of miles away in Germany, which left her feeling helpless.

"It’s our baby, we absolutely love her," Hinz said.

Not only this, but Lucy was there for Hinz during one of the toughest times in her life. Hinz battled an aggressive form of breast cancer five years ago, and Lucy helped her get through it.

"I gave her happiness back, and she did the same for me," Hinz said of the rescue dog.

On Sept. 7, Lucy went missing while in the care of a pet sitter, and was last seen on Penmar Golf Course.

She was cornered, but slipped through a fence, and hasn’t been seen since.

Volunteers around the community have banded together, trying to spread the word about the lovable pit.

The clinic offered $1,000 for Lucy’s safe return.
