Authorities Lose Motorcyclist During High-Speed Chase Through Los Angeles

The chase reached speeds of up to 140 mph.

Authorities were looking for a motorcyclist in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday night who led them on a high-speed chase from Hacienda Heights that reached speeds of up to 140 miles per hour.

California Highway Patrol officers tried to stop the motorcyclist for speeding at the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway and the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway at 10:40 p.m., said Officer Francisco Villalobos.

The motorcyclist exceeded speeds of 100 mph, prompting authorities to follow the suspect with a helicopter. At one point, the motorcyclist traveled up to 140 mph.

The motorcyclist traveled on the 710, 105 and 110 freeways and on surface streets in San Gabriel and Long Beach. He eventually exited the 110 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles, Villalobos said.

There was a large police presence downtown late Tuesday night as authorities searched for the suspect in the area of Hope and Third Street.
