Westbound 10 Freeway Backup After Palm Tree Goes Down

Traffic was backed up for miles in Santa Monica on the westbound 10 Freeway Wednesday afternoon after a palm tree came crashing down, officials said.

The tree went down on the northbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway, backing up freeway traffic at 4th Street, officials said.

All lanes of the westbound 10 were blocked at 5th Street at one point as crews worked to clear the tree around 4 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

The lanes were reopened shortly thereafter, but traffic was backed up to the 405 Freeway.
