13-Year-Old Bitten by Family Pit Bull

A 13-year-old boy suffered a "significant injury" to his right arm when he was bitten by a family pit bull Wednesday in Lake Los Angeles, a sheriff's lieutenant said.

The incident occurred at 4 p.m. at a home in the 43300 block of 166th Street East, said Lt. Joseph Fender of the sheriff's Lancaster Station.

The boy was at the home of his aunt and uncle playing outside with his uncle, a cousin and the dog, Fender said.

"Suddenly the dog bit the 13-year-old on the arm, causing a significant injury to his right arm,'' Fender said. "He was airlifted to Children's Hospital Los Angeles."

Animal control officers were summoned to the home and took custody of the dog "at the owner's request," Fender said. There was no arrest or citation issued.

The age or gender of the dog or how long the family had owned it was not known by Fender. The case was under investigation but was not a criminal matter, he said.
